Sony and Panasonic have announced Archival Disc, a new generation of optical discs that allow capacity storage from 300 MB to 1 TB.
These discs are intended for professional use and also aim to improve the process of making backups. This has been reported both companies via a press release.
Sony and Panasonic have highlighted on Archival Disc is responsible for the environment as well as the resistance to dust, water and temperature changes.
In addition, companies have claimed they will have “intergenerational compatibility” so that the information can be read either to the evolution of formats.
The first optical discs go on sale will be the 300 GB and by mid-2015. Subsequently Sony and Panasonic will launch other higher capacity versions.
